Long Term Care Insurance can be described as asset protection insurance.  Consider that 1 in 5 Americans will be paying for care in an assisted living environment at some point in their lives.  You probably have a family member or friend who can attest to that fact.  The question is, “How will that care be paid for?”  For many, it will be dollar for dollar out of their retirement nest egg.  For others, who’ve planned with insurance, it very well could be 20 cents on the dollar.  In a scenario like that, $50,000 of insurance might buy $250,000 worth of care.
